Most humans lack virus neutralizing (VN) and haemagglutination inhibition (HI) antibodies to H5N1 avian influenza viruses (AIVs), but cross-reactive neuraminidase inhibition (NI) antibodies and cell-mediated immune (CMI) responses are common. These immune responses result largely from infections with seasonal human H1N1 influenza viruses, but the protective effect of H1N1 infection-immunity against H5N1 infection has never been examined. To this purpose, we have used the pig model of influenza and a low pathogenic (LP) H5N1 AIV. Pigs were inoculated intranasally with sw/Belgium/1/98 (H1N1) 4 weeks before challenge with duck/Minnesota/1525/81 (H5N1). While the viruses failed to cross-re...

(NaturalNews) There is a lot of fear of Swine flu (H1N1) this season, but Traditional Chinese Medicine has effective techniques both to boost immunity and recover from flu, which are thousands of years old.In Chinese Medicine, flu and colds are considered an invasion of the body of external pathogens, either cold or heat. Cold often turns to heat in the body, and we have signs of sore throat, fatigue, achiness, headache and cough. When our body`s Qi (Energy) - especially Wei Qi (Immune Energy) is strong, we are able to fight off these invasions. The energy pathways responsible for keeping the Qi strong are the Digestive energy and Lung Energy (which controls the Wei Qi.)To keep our Qi strong and prevent the flu and common cold:
Eat a Healthy Diet, full of fresh raw fruits and vegetables

According to GlaxoSmithKline, a second clinical trial of its adjuvanted H1N1 swine flu vaccine Pandemrix® has confirmed that a single dose could provide a strong immune response. Experts had initially expected that adults would need two doses of H1N1 vaccine to obtain a good response but vaccine trials conducted by various manufacturers suggest one dose is probably enough. These data reinforce the recommendations from the UK Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation on use of a single dose of Pandemix for non-immunocompromised individuals aged from 10 years upwards. Research has demonstrated the ability of the supplement N-Acetyl Cysteine to help battle the flu. N-Acetyl Cysteine has several properties that make this supplement a must have in your arsenal for staying healthy during the swine flu outbreak. During the past several years, a increasing number of people have been relying on N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) as a simple and effective strategy for defending against influenza during normal flu seasons.

Indicators of 2009 H1N1 or swine flu are not unlike those for regular old run-of-the-mill flu. What makes the swine flu virus different from typical flu is that more serious complications, such as pneumonia, might occur more often. Swine flu is also a new strain of flu, and no one in the population would be expected to be immune since it has never been encountered before.
During an outbreak such as this, one of the biggest concerns for officials is simply that a lot of people could get sick at the same time.
